Speeding vehicle leads to a suspected impaired driver and drug seizure

On Friday, November 24, 2023 BC Highway Patrol was patrolling Highway 97 near 226 Road in South Taylor BC. At approximately 8:00 pm, a speeding vehicle caught the attention of the police officer.

An older model SUV was travelling at 138 km/h in a posted 100km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped without incident and the driver, a 19-year-old man with a BC class 7 driver’s license exhibited signs of impairment. An odor of liquor was detected and police conducted an impaired driving investigation.

Evidence collected at the scene suggested that the driver was impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol.

During the course of the investigation police located over 60 grams of suspected cocaine as well as several hundred dollars in cash. The man was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Suspected drugs and Canadian cash

The man was served 2 driving prohibitions under the BC Motor Vehicle Act and issued numerous violation tickets. The man was later released and could face charges of impaired driving and drug trafficking.
