Douglas Channel patrols:

On July 27th, 2023, two Kitimat RCMP officers utilized the local detachment vessel to conduct checks within the Douglas Channel. Several checks, including boats for appropriate documentation, licenses and safety equipment were conducted. All boats checked were compliant. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind the boating public to ensure all their licenses, documents and safety equipment are up to date before venturing out to see our amazing ocean views and great fishing spots.

No insurance/prohibited driver:

While conducting patrols along South Lahakas Blvd, in Kitimat BC on July 28th, a Kitimat RCMP officer conduced a check on a vehicle license plate, and found that the vehicle insurance had expired. A traffic stop was conducted and during the stop it was found that the driver was to be served a 30-day driving prohibition. The driver was served all the appropriate paperwork and left the vehicle legally parked until it was insured and a licensed driver returned to remove it. Any driver found operating a vehicle without insurance can face a fine of $598. (2023-2814)

90-day IRP:

While conducting a check stop along during the evening of July 28th, 2023 on Dyke Road, in Kitimat BC, the driver of a vehicle was check for sobriety. It was found, after providing a sample of breath into a roadside screening device, the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2023-2823)

Single vehicle collision:

Just before 1:00 am on July 29th, the Kitimat RCMP was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on the 1700 block of Nalabila Blvd, Kitimat BC. The RCMP officer attended and found a vehicle had driven off the roadway and struck two parked vehicles. The driver was found not to be impaired by alcohol or drugs. It appears they had fallen asleep at the wheel, luckily no injuries were sustained.

Suspicious people:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle and suspicious people at an unoccupied residence on July 29th. The responding officers attended and located the persons. It was found that the two people were hired by the owner of the residence to clean and advised how they received the key to enter the dwelling. (2023-2833)

3-day driving prohibition/unlicensed driver:

The manner a vehicle was being operated on North Lahakas Blvd, in Kitimat BC, during the evening of July 29th, 2023, caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer making patrols. A traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle eventually stopped and the officer started an investigation into the impaired operation of the vehicle. It was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving, Investigation also revealed that the driver’s license had also been cancelled. The driver was issued a 3-day immediate roadside suspension, a violation ticket for driving without a valid driver’s license and the vehicle was impounded for 3 days. (2023-2847)

Roadside assistance:

On July 30th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a request for assistance by a local senior whose mobility scooter battery had died downtown and they were not sure who to ask for help. The senior was provided a ride home and the officer picked up a charging cord so the scooter battery could be recharged. The senior then had a neighbor bring them back a few hours later to retrieve the now charged scooter. This file really highlights that you never know what a police officers shift may bring. 24 hour driving prohibition:

A vehicle driving along Tsimshian Blvd, Kitimat BC, in the dark without headlights on caught the attention of a patrolling Kitimat RCMP officer on July 31st, 2023. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver received a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded, (2023-2876)

Two vehicle collision:

On August 2nd, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Nalabila Avenue and Kingfisher Avenue, Kitimat BC. It was reported that both vehicles had stopped at the four way stop, however both left at the same time, causing them to collide. One driver was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. One vehicle required to be towed from the scene. (2023-2902)
