File # 2024-5560

On March 24, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Westshore RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving a single vehicle and a cyclist at the intersection of Island Highway and Burnside Road West, in View Royal.

West Shore RCMP Frontline and Traffic Unit officers attended the scene and learned a sedan had struck a cyclist at this location. The cyclist, identified as a 55-year old male, was taken to hospital via BC Emergency Health Services for life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 21-year-old male, remained on scene and is cooperative with the police investigation.

Burnside Rd. West east bound lanes were shut down for a number of hours allowing for officers to conduct their work. A Collision Reconstructionist was called to the scene and the cause of the collision is still under investigation, though police can confirm drug and alcohol impairment was ruled out for the driver.

Burnside Rd West is expected to reopen some time overnight on March 25. West Shore RCMP will provide an update to this release later in the week once more information becomes available.
