File # 2023-7924

On April 27 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the West Shore RCMP were called to the scene of a collision involving a Grey 2002 Mazda Tribute that struck a 4-year-old child near the 100 block of Bellamy Link in Langford.

Police arrived on scene and observed BC Emergency Health Services and the Langford Fire Department tending to a 4-year-old girl. Officers learned the child had been riding her bike on Bellamy Link when she veered from the curb into the roadway and was struck by the Mazda Tribute. The child sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

The 37-year-old driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was determined by police to be prohibited from driving under the Motor Vehicle Act due to prior infractions involving impaired driving and being an unlicensed driver. Officers suspected the driver was impaired and obtained a breath sample from him which indicated he did have alcohol in his body however it registered under the legal limit. He was arrested for Prohibited Driving and released on an Undertaking with conditions to not be found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and is set to appear in court in June.
