On March 5th, just after 9:00 PM, West Shore RCMP frontline officers responded to the 4600 block of Sooke Rd in Metchosin for a report of a 37-year-old man who had been shot.

Several police resources, including specialized units such as the West Shore RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS), the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) quickly attended the area. The 37-year-old-man, who was known to police, was found deceased at the scene.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has now taken conduct of this investigation which remains in its very early stages.

Initial evidence gathered at the scene lead investigators to believe that this was a targeted incident, says Cst. Alex Bérubé, Media Relations Officer for the West Shore RCMP. No arrests have been made at this point. We are asking anyone with information to contact our investigators. Particularly anyone who may have been travelling the area between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.
