The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 285 calls for service from Friday Feb. 23 to 9 a.m. on Monday Feb. 26, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Break and enter

Police are investigating a smash-and-grab break-in at a downtown business Friday morning.

On Feb. 23, 2024, around 3:30 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 200-block of Victoria Street for an alarm report. Police were patrolling the area at the time and multiple officers attended, along with the Police Dog Service Unit. A glass cabinet with purses and jewelry was smashed inside.

Those with security video footage, particularly of the alleyways, are asked to see if they captured anything suspicious. Those with information that may be related can contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-5459.

Man charged with theft, breach

A Kamloops man is facing two charges, thanks to the help of a loss prevention officer.

On Feb. 23, 2024, around noon, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a business on the 400-block of Lansdowne Street where a loss prevention officer had a suspect in custody for theft, who was also on conditions not to be at the location. Police arrested the suspect and held him in custody on approved charges of theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with an Undertaking.

During the bail hearing, the accused received a Release Order with a next court appearance scheduled for March 3, 2024.

Arrests: assault with a weapon investigation

Two suspects have been arrested and three more have been identified by police as part of a serious assault investigation from this weekend.

On Sunday Feb. 25, 2024, around 2:25 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 700-block of Notre Dame Drive for a report of an assault with a weapon. One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Five suspects were allegedly involved in the incident, one of which was quickly located and arrested for the assault as well as on an unendorsed warrant. He was given a court date and conditions for the new assault investigation by police, and held for court for the warrant, at which point he received a release order and new court date. A second person was arrested on Tuesday Feb. 27, while police were responding to another report involving the same suspect. Three more men have been identified, but remain outstanding.

Break in on Victoria Street

A tablet and a cash till were stolen early Sunday morning from a downtown business.

On Feb. 25, 2024, around 3:10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 800-block of Victoria Street for the report of a security alarm. On scene, police discovered a window had been smashed. A till taken from inside was located nearby. A suspect is described as stocky, wearing all black: balaclava, gloves, coveralls, and footwear.

Weapons seizure

Police investigating a suspicious vehicle were led to a weapons seizure on Saturday morning.

On Feb. 24, 2024, around 10:45 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling the area of Lethbridge Avenue when a vehicle was observed with multiple defects. A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle fled.

As part of the investigation, police attended a residence on the 800-block of Valhalla Drive where they seized what appeared to be a saw-off long-gun and a bb gun inside.

The registered owner of the vehicle was issued violation tickets for failing to stop and driving without due care and consideration, as well as a Notice and Order to address its defects.
