Kamloops RCMP investigating found remains

A police presence is in the Mission Flats area this morning where skeletal remains, believed to be human, were located this weekend.

On Sunday Feb. 25, 2024, around 3:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to an area near the landfill in response to the discovery. A police presence remains at the scene for further examination by the Forensic Identification Services Unit (FIS) and attendance by the BC Coroners Service.

At this time, the investigation into the found skeletal remains is in its very early stages, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. Who the remains belong to and the circumstances surrounding their discovery are part of the ongoing investigation occurring in consultation with the BC Coroners Service.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.
