Police seeking witnesses for hit and run where driver was assaulted

The West Shore RCMP is currently investigating a report of an alleged hit and run and assault that took place on December 24, 2024 at approximately 7:45 a.m. on the Trans Canada Hwy near the Helmcken off ramp in View Royal.
A grey 2011 Mercedes GLK350 was travelling southbound on the Trans Canada Hwy in the right turn lane intending to exit via the Helmcken off ramp, when it was side swiped by a black Volkswagen Jetta. Both vehicles pulled over to the side of the road. The driver of the Jetta is alleged to have assaulted the driver of the Mercedes. The driver of the Jetta did not remain on scene or provide their information with regards to the collision. The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.
The suspect driver is described as:
- Caucasian male 40-45 years old;
- approximately 5’10 to 6 ft tall;
- short black hair;
- black beard;
- wearing glasses, a black shirt, and black jeans;
- driving a black Volkswagen Jetta (unknown licence plate).
Police are looking for witnesses who may have seen this incident take place or motorists who have dash camera footage and may have captured the incident as they were driving by. If you were in the area of Trans Canada Hwy near the Helmcken off ramp in View Royal on December 24 at approximately 7:45 a.m. and were witness to this incident, please call police at 250-474-2264.
