Police seize large quantity of drugs and cash, multiple people arrested for drug trafficking

Between Oct 13 and Oct 15, West Shore RCMP officers from Crime Reduction Unit and Frontline Policing stopped 3 separate vehicles and uncovered evidence of drug trafficking across the West Shore. Police seized a large quantity of drugs, cash and stolen clothing. Several people were arrested for drug trafficking.

West Shore RCMP is committed to disrupting and dismantling the drug trade in West Shore. There was a significant amount of drugs and cash taken off the street this past weekend, said Inspector Stephen Rose, Officer in Charge of Operations at West Shore RCMP.

These investigations were independent of one another and are detailed below:

File 2023-21096

On October 13, at approximately 5:30 p.m., The West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop with a GMC Sierra pickup truck near the 800 block of Langford Parkway as the vehicle was associated to a prohibited driver.

Crime Reduction Unit officers observed evidence of drug trafficking and drugs within reach of the driver. The driver, identified as a 38-year-old resident of View Royal was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.

A search of both the driver and vehicle revealed evidence of drug trafficking including:

The suspect was released on an Undertaking and drug trafficking charges are expected to be forthcoming.

File 2023-21191

On October 14, at approximately 10:40 p.m., The West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop with a 2012 Fiat 500, near the intersection of Brock Ave and Jacklin Rd. in Langford. Officers observed evidence of drugs within the vehicle. All three occupants were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

A search of the arrested persons and vehicle, revealed evidence of drug trafficking. Police seized the following:

The three occupants arrested were 70, 64 and 17 years of age. The 17-year-old youth suspect was release on an Undertaking. Police are continuing their investigation and drug trafficking charges are expected to be forthcoming.

File 2023-21244

On October 15, at approximately 11:23 p.m., A West Shore RCMP frontline officer was patrolling the area near Island Hwy and Burnett Rd in View Royal, when they observed a white Jeep Cherokee drifting across the lanes.

The officer conducted a traffic stop to check the sobriety of the driver and observed drugs inside the vehicle. Two 40-year-old male suspects and one 31-year-old female suspect were arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.

After searching both the vehicle and the occupants, police seized the following evidence of drug trafficking:

The suspects were released from custody as the investigation is ongoing. Drug trafficking charges are expected following the completion the investigation.

Though some drugs have been decriminalized in the province of B.C., it is important to note that decriminalized drugs cannot be in a motor vehicle where the illegal substances are readily accessible to the driver or in a motor vehicle where there is a minor present.
